This is another of the shots from the "Wafuku Street" coffee table book.
The most difficult thing with the outfit is the uchikake, of course... It was very heavy. Meng's boyfriend helped out by carrying the train for me as we moved around the street to find nice spots. We couldn't have it dragging over the pavement, after all. The people in Little Tokyo seemed really amused by us (me and were both fully done up) and even took photos while we did the shoot.
They might have thought we were mascots? (lol)
Again, everything I'm wearing comes from Archie's Aunt Michiko. When she found out that Archie was nurturing a group of girls here who were trying to emulate becoming geiko, she was so happy that she sent over so many things to us, including kimono and fabric. The katsura I'm wearing was hers, and worn for the first time after decades. This is because Michiko-san's own daughters had gone to America, and thought that geisha culture was antiquated and had no interest. So Michiko-san was very happy to hear that somewhere, a geisha-loving girl will wear her kimono again, even if she does come from a whole world away.
Are you comfortable with ordering offline?^^* Ebay works well....There's also another site,Ichiroya.com...they ship to the U.S.,though,some of the kimono are a bit expensive.
Kimono Market Sakura is an awesome place to get a beautiful Kimono or Yukata they range from $40-$100 and have all the accesories you could think of! They are also reasonably priced and when I ordered my Yukata I recived it in three days!
